Tide History

!±8± Tide History

Tide History Tide, a division of Proctor and Gamble was created in 1943 out of a need for a new American detergent. Previous to Tide, American's were using soap flakes to clean their clothes. These soap flakes were a crude way to wash clothes and caused various problems including dulling clothes' and turning whites grey. Tide scientists created a synthetic "miracle molecule". These synthetic molecules greatly increased Tide's detergent ability to remove grease and oil from clothes.

Tide was introduced in October 1946 as the world's first heavy-duty detergent. Within two weeks of its entrance into the market it was outselling every brand. It continued to excel to the present day. Tide is industry leader on innovation, Tide now has hundreds of products ranging From their original scented powder to a cold water detergent specially formulated to work in cold water saving you money and saving the environment. Tide has always followed the trends in both the market and the public's appeal to their product. A great example is the stain remover pen which is now a number one seller across north America.

The research department at Tide has never stopped. In the first 22 years Tide changed its formula 21 times and continues to improve to this day. Every year researchers for Tide duplicate the water from all over the United States and wash over 50,000 loads of laundry to test both Tides consistency and performance. This shows how from the beginning, the Tide Research team has always pushed to improve their product.
